      Even with all the attention being given to the homeless, there seem to be more homeless people every day.  Being homeless is truly a lifestyle choice for many of the people I have interviewed.  However, there are many negative reasons why most people are homeless, including personal tragedy, alcoholism, drugs, depression, handicaps and mental illness.
      Helping the homeless has usually meant giving them food, clothing and shelter, plus providing some counseling.  What the homeless really need is a low-cost, effective means of learning how to care for themselves.  After all, if a few people can care for thousands of homeless people, one homeless person should certainly be able to care for one homeless person.
