Act 2 - Specify Your Goals
You must have goals, otherwise you won't know if you are headed in the right direction and you certainly won't know when you have arrived at your destination. Of course, you always have goals even if you don't think you do. Your "goal" might just be "to not set any goals and let Life give me whatever it might randomly give me." Actually, your life is never random. Your life is really controlled by the thoughts which you have in your conscious and subconscious minds and the actions which you take on your thoughts whether you are consciously aware of your thoughts or not.
Before you learn the details of Specifying Your Goals,
it is important to have a general list of what you think
you desire: let's call this starting point What I Want
Now! On a piece of paper, you will write everything you
would like to have, do and be, no matter how large or small you
think it is, since only you assign size.
There is no difference, as far as life is
concerned, between the shoes on your feet and your financial
independence, for example. You probably know how to have
shoes on your feet and you probably have more shoes in your
closet. What you feel is difficult or out of reach is
already easy for someone else, and you too can have, do or be
anything, but you must first claim it. Put another way,
there are really no "poor" people; there are only
"rich" people who have not yet claimed their rewards
from Our Totally Abundant Universe!
This list is an excellent way to access
your Inner Guidance.
As any child knows, anything is OK, it's OK to make it up
and it's OK to change your mind, even if it's only two minutes
later. If you discover something you don't want on your
list, take it off: make room for what you do want.
You may just need to give yourself permission to have, do or be
whatever you think you would like to have, do or be; this
releases the emotional energy you may have on a particular
possible desire so you can focus on what you truly desire.
List your intangible desires, such as
love, contribution, peace of mind and happiness. Next to
each intangible desire, list the physical symbols that represent
what you feel you would like to have, to do or to be to
experience that intangible quality. For example,
"feeling loved" can manifest as an empowering
relationship with that special partner or as more time nurturing
yourself. Conversely, some of your tangible desires
may have intangible qualities or values associated with
them: list these also. For example, "having
money" can represent security and freedom, the real reasons
you desire money.
The length of your list is not as important
as the completeness, so write continuously. If you
stop writing and you have a frown on your face, it's probably
there for one of two reasons. If you think you should want
something, but you don't really want it, don't waste your time
listing it. List only the things you desire, not the things
you think other people want for you or that you should provide
for other people. Alternately, if you really want
something, but you haven't a clue how you could ever have it, you
should especially list this.
Further, keep your list private as
we explored in detail in Act 1.
However, if you are truly sharing a goal with a personal
or business partner, make sure you both have the same
spoken and unspoken end result in mind.
For example, if you set a goal of financial
independence at $10,000 per month and your partner sets a goal of
$2,000 per month, your attention will be on resetting your
partner's goal rather than pursuing the real end result of
financial independence. Also, once you experience
"financial independence," the amount of independence
can be adjusted up (or down) easily at will. And if you
have one design objective for a project and your colleagues have
another, your focus will be on the differences rather than on
producing a valuable and profitable product or service.
Being in agreement on clear, empowering goals is always important
to assure positive results.
Therefore, do not share your list with
anyone unless you know he/she will support you 100% to have
everything on your list.
Finally, since the act of writing on
paper gives these desires so much more power than merely thinking
or talking about them, treat this list as only Possibility
Thinking at this time. This is merely an honest
assessment of what you think you would like to have, to do
and to be. In other words, it's OK to experiment.
Now quickly write your list, using just a
few words to capture each possibility.
EXERCISE 10: list your possible goals for about five minutes
Did you enjoy that? I hope
so! Unfortunately, what you have in front of you are really
just words on a piece of paper. If you can't get these
words off the paper and into your life, you will be gathering
evidence that you cannot have these goals in your life. So
this is another reason to just treat this list as Possibility
Thinking for the present time.
If you have carefully "listened
to" your Inner Guidance,
all items on your list of possible goals will be empowering.
That is, fulfilling your desires will not cause physical, mental,
emotional or spiritual harm to anyone or anything. However,
if some disempowering desires have crept into your list,
the source of these disempowering desires can be quickly and
permanently healed, forgiven, cleared or removed by Eliminating Your Blocks
in Act 3.
Now that you have a list of the
possibilities of what you think you would like in your life, you
will apply the same process that people of all ages and
backgrounds around the world have used to create Total Success in their
lives. You will learn how to focus an incredible amount
of attention on one particular goal. You will take the
goal through a complete process of bringing it into your life so
you have an experience of how the process works. Then you
can apply the process to any other goal later.
Which goal will you work with first?
You have a whole list of goals you say you want. Pick
the empowering goal that is most important to you right now.
This is your number one heart's desire, the goal for which you
have a burning desire, the one which would bring you the most
pleasure.
You may be tempted to work with a lesser
goal, such as number two or number three. However, you'll
be working with one goal while dreaming about another, and that's
called split focus: that's why you get mixed results.
You will not be doing a good job on number two or number three,
and you will probably not get any results with your number one
goal.
Another reason for picking your most
important goal is that once you are moving toward that goal or,
even better, you actually experience having your most important
goal, all your other goals will seem almost trivial and, hence,
easy to complete. You also have a lot of life energy
(physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) on that goal for
which you have the greatest desire, and you may have wanted that
goal for most of your life. So when you do manifest your
most important goal, all the energy which was focused on that
goal is now available to focus on other goals. It is also
possible that your most important goal is not even on your list
because you gave up on it long ago.
So, on a sheet of paper, you will write
out the empowering goal for which you have the greatest desire
with the complete date, including the month, the day and the year
by which you are willing to receive it.
It's important to form a complete sentence in
the present tense. By present tense, I mean to use such
words as "I am ..." or "I have ..." which put
your goal in the now. We tend to say "I will ..."
or "I want ...," meaning, "I don't have it now and
maybe I could possibly get it in the future." Forget
that! You do not want to give your brain "future"
messages, because the future never comes and what you desire will
never come either. Put your desires in the now because you
must always work with your end result when you work with
any goal.
The general format is, "I, (your name), am thankful for receiving (your concise goal) by (date)." For example, you might say, "I, (your name), am thankful for meeting my ideal partner by (date)." Or, "I, (your name), am thankful for having my health restored by (date)." Or, "I, (your name), am thankful for being financially independent by (date)."
You may have been told to not be specific because it limits you. Since your Inner Guidance already knows exactly what you truly desire and when you desire it, it is important to specify it on paper. Also, seeing it on paper allows you to experience the goal visually. Hence, you are feeding your subconscious mind information about your goal in ways other than just thinking about it.
Remember to give thanks in advance. In other words, develop an attitude of gratitude. After all, if you did something for me, I would thank you. And if you agreed to do something for me, I would thank you in advance. Giving thanks in advance is a powerful way of acting as if you have faith that Life works for you. The expression, "Life has a way of giving you what you act like you've already got," is really true. Nature gives you exactly what you act like you've already got, so act thankful in advance as a very powerful message to your subconscious mind that you can afford to be happy in advance, that you expect life to support you. And, of course, you always prove yourself right based on your beliefs and the action you take to back those beliefs.
EXERCISE 11: write your first empowering goal statement
Then, under your goal statement, you will
write a detailed description of this goal as though you
already have it, as though you are experiencing and enjoying it
and are merely describing it on paper or to a friend.
Describe your goal in the present tense, working with your end
result. Use all of your sensory imagery: sight,
sound, taste, touch and smell. Describe your emotional
state, how you feel, if you are alone or with someone, if you are
indoors or outdoors, what time of the year it is. What
characteristics do you desire in that special person? What
color is the car? Exactly how much money does financial
independence mean? What does experiencing God really
mean? How would your body feel if it were healthy?
In other words, get very specific and very
detailed describing the end result that you desire.
Remember, when you really want something, the smallest detail is
not superficial unless you accept someone else's value
system: you don't have to compromise yourself in the
least. And, finally, a good or positive (empowering)
feeling is probably the end experience you really want from all
your goals, dreams and desires.
However, do NOT describe HOW you will achieve this goal. If you really know HOW to achieve this goal, you'd probably already have it! The actual HOW (strategies and possibilities you may never have considered before) will become apparent as you move toward your end result. Just remember, Never Give Up And Never Quit: There Is Always A Way! (However, do take a break occasionally.)
EXERCISE 12: write a detailed description of your first empowering goal for about five minutes
Now you've really done it: you say
you want what is described on this paper more than anything else
right now. However, what you have in front of you are even
more words on a piece of paper. So, if you can't get these
words off the paper and into your life, you could be gathering
even more evidence that you cannot have this goal in your life
and you really reinforce an old thought pattern that says,
"I can't have what's most important to me in life. I
have to compromise and settle for seconds and thirds."
And that's simply not true.
The good news is that you've just focused
much more attention on your goal. And the more you focus
on anything, the more likely it will appear in your life.
As you discover additional
"specifications" for that special relationship, job,
home, vehicle, product, service, etc., add them. I find my
computer is a great tool for precisely revising my goals and goal
details.
At this point, you may even discover that
you do not really want the particular goal you have just focused
on! If you do not want the goal, just pick a new goal
rather than expend any more life energy on the old goal.
To get your goal and goal details off the paper and into your life, you must first get this new idea into your subconscious mind where it becomes part of your belief system. And you always create your life outwardly based on your beliefs. Let's face it, if you don't believe you can have this goal, you won't. You will find some way to sabotage yourself and take actions which push your goal off into the future or prevent it from even happening at all. The next steps in the instant SUCCESS Program will continue the process of getting this new idea into your subconscious mind and into your life.
Since you want more than one thing (you
probably have a long list), how many goals do you work on at any
given time? The answer to this question is simple.
Within one week of beginning this instant SUCCESS Program, set as many specific
goals as you want in the present tense with the dates by which
you are willing to have them in your life. For each goal,
repeat the two previous exercises: concisely specify each
empowering goal and write a detailed description of each goal in
the present tense.
The key to success with this process
is to work only with the exact number of goals to which you are 100%
committed to manifesting at any given time. Since your
commitments are your actions, for every goal that you set, you
will complete the remaining steps to Total
Success in this Book:
Eliminate Your Blocks,
Take Empowering Action
and Share Your Success.
If you are not willing to follow all the instructions for each goal, don't do any of them because you may not experience your goal by the specified date, or you may not experience your goal at all, and you will certainly gather more evidence that Life does not support you. Just admit that you have other priorities and focus fully on those other priorities. Then, when you are ready to give your full attention to your goals, you will have all your life energy available to do so.
EXERCISE 13: within one week of beginning this instant SUCCESS Program, focus also on the remaining empowering goals which you are 100% committed to experiencing at this time
